Our Jordan for Families itinerary is the same base route for any age group — the difference is in how much of each activity's optional, more demanding layer you take on.
With Young Kids (Roughly 5–9)
Lean into the guaranteed hits: Ma'in's swimmable waterfalls, the Ajloun children's zipline, and the Petra treasure-hunt trail with the horse-drawn carriage option for the Siq. Skip the Petra Monastery climb and keep Wadi Rum's jeep activity short and dune-focused rather than a long circuit.
With School-Age Kids (Roughly 9–13)
This is close to the itinerary's default pacing — full engagement with the treasure-hunt approach at Petra, the main Ajloun zipline line if they meet the height requirement, and enough stamina for the standard jeep tour and stargazing session at Wadi Rum.
With Teenagers
Teens generally handle the full adult version of most activities — the Petra Monastery climb via the 800-step trail, the main 330m Ajloun zipline line, and a longer, more active Wadi Rum jeep circuit. Some families with teens prefer blending in elements from our Rift Valley Traverse itinerary for more adventure content — ask us about a custom blend.
Traveling With a Mixed-Age Group
This is the most common real-world scenario, and it's exactly what the itinerary's split points are designed for — at Petra's Basin, older kids/teens can continue to the Monastery while younger children turn back with one parent, then regroup for the afternoon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the itinerary be adjusted for a wide age range in one family?
Yes — this is normal, not an edge case. We build in split points at Petra and flexible activity levels at Wadi Rum specifically for mixed-age groups.
Should teenagers do the Family itinerary or a themed adult route?
Depends on the teen and the rest of the family — many families successfully blend Family itinerary pacing with elements of our Adventure route for older teens. Tell us your group's ages and we'll suggest the right mix.
