Not all Wadi Rum camps are the same, and the difference matters more than most first-time visitors expect. Our itineraries use three distinct camp types, each suited to a different priority.
Large Commercial Camps
Higher-capacity camps with more amenities and a more programmed evening — reliable and comfortable, but with more light and generator noise than a smaller setup. We don't typically use these on our itineraries, preferring smaller alternatives.
Small Private Camp (Our Adventure & Family Itineraries)
A private tent within a small camp — on our Rift Valley Traverse, this means a private tent rather than a large tourist camp; on our Jordan for Families itinerary, it means proper toilets and showers prioritized over rustic character.
Private Low-Density Silence Camp (Our Wellness Itinerary)
Our Desert Silence & Healing itinerary goes further — a small camp positioned specifically away from generator-run sites, chosen for night silence and dark skies rather than amenities. This is the option for travelers whose priority is genuine quiet over convenience.
Bedouin Family's Own Camp (Our Cultural Immersion Itinerary)
Not a built tourist camp at all — on our Living Jordan itinerary, the final night joins a Bedouin family's actual home camp, with shared rather than private accommodation. See our full post on what this homestay is really like.
How to Choose
Want maximum comfort and a shorter, activity-focused evening? Our Family itinerary's camp fits. Want genuine silence and dark skies as the whole point? Our Wellness itinerary's private low-density camp fits. Want the most authentic, unscripted experience and don't mind simpler accommodation? Our Cultural Immersion itinerary's family homestay fits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are private tents always en-suite?
Varies by itinerary — check the specific itinerary's accommodation summary, since some private camps use shared-bath tents rather than en-suite.
Can I upgrade my camp choice within an itinerary?
Often yes, at the Comfort tier. Ask us when booking.
